Happy Birthday! Made it Monday

Happy Monday BIRTHDAY!!

Love how this linky kicks me into gear to get things checked off my to-do list! One project I have had on the list FOR A LONG TIME is to make some new birthday chair covers.

It is basically a pillow case that fits over my classroom chairs.  On their birthday kiddos get to put it on their chair for the day.  Whoo! For some reason, this is a BIG DEAL in my classroom! My old one (which I have had for at least 10 years) was getting pretty ratty looking. I also decided that I needtwo.  Once in a blue moon I need more than one.  Like when I had twins in my class. They are really easy to make and even better because they require no advance preparation. I just whip it out in the morning and we are ready to go.

I started with purchasing a 19″ length of cute birthday fabric. (You’ll want to measure your chairs, and add 2 inches or so on each side.) I just left it the width of the fabric alone. So basically mine is 19″ x 48.” I ironed and hemmed each side. (I did it zippy quick and eyeballed it… Don’t tell my Granny I didn’t measure, k?)

Then I pinned it- inside out- on the sides making sure the base was close to the seat. Luckily, my daughter has a chair that is about the same size as my classroom chairs.

Then I sewed up the sides. All in all it only took me about 10 minutes!  Super excited!! (Man that is a grubby chair! Don’t look!!)

This year, my kiddos are getting these:

It is a GALLON sized bag filled with STEM inspired goodies!  There is a science experiment booklet, a mini-journal, and supplies needed to complete most of the experiments. The other supplies are easily found around the house.  The printables are available in my TPT store. It comes with a complete SHOPPING list and PACKING list.  Click on the picture above to check it out!

I am SUPER proud of them and had really great feedback. They were SUPER CHEAP to make but pack a lot of WOW factor. They are already done and ready to go too, which will make life easier when school starts. Whoo… hoo!!

The other thing I do for my kiddos is make them a balloon animal or hat. This they also LOVE.

I have had some “balloon training” in my past, but honestly anyone can pull off a dog or a sword with a bag of balloons, a pump, and You Tube! It is cheap too!

That is about all I do for birthdays in my neck of the woods. I try to do “make-aheads” whenever I can.

Thanks to Fourth Grade Frolics for hosting this linky party!!  It has really gotten my rear in gear! Check out the other great projects folks have been up to this week!

Have a great week!!!
